For Immediate Release
July 29, 2004
The Alaska Highway 2004 Legacy Tour was
an outstanding success! Each community from Dawson Creek,
BC to Delta
Junction and
Fairbanks, Alaska welcomed the tour with luncheons, barbeques,
and a variety of energizing entertainment and visits to local
attractions. “I would like to sincerely thank everyone
who assisted in organizing the warm reception in each and
every community we had the pleasure to visit,” says
City of Dawson Creek Mayor Wayne Dahlen.
The principal objective of the visits was
to meet with elected representatives to discuss the Memorandum
of Understanding
at the Alaska Highway International Forum in Dawson Creek,
BC on September 29, 2004.
“
We are encouraged by the positive response from the communities.” says
Mayor Wayne Dahlen, “By working collaboratively we
can ensure a strong and united voice of those who live along
the Alaska Highway corridor while working towards preserving
the historical, cultural and wilderness characteristics of
this important highway.”
It is planned that the signing of the Memorandum
of Understanding will solidify a long-term working relationship
between
all parties interested in the future of this important
international
highway. A Community Roundtable will be held on September
30th to review the MOU and to determine a course of action
to serve as guiding principles for the preservation of
the Alaska Highway for northern residence, the traveling
public
and future generations.
The Alaska Highway International Forum will
provide political leaders, administrative officials and
tourism stakeholders
from British Columbia, Yukon, and Alaska with an opportunity
to jointly explore and collaborate on issues regarding
the maintenance, infrastructure for tourism development,
preservation
of history, corridor management and marketing and promotion
of the Alaska Highway.
Special thank you to Fraserway RV Rentals
